ScribbleVet vs Chartling: AI Scribe or AI-Native PIMS?

The short answer

ScribbleVet is a well-built ambient scribe: record the appointment, get a structured SOAP, copy it into whatever PIMS you already run. Chartling is an AI-native clinic OS — the scribe is one surface inside the record system, so the signed note, the invoice, the controlled-substance log, and the owner's discharge instructions all come out of the same visit.

If your PIMS is fine and documentation is your only bottleneck, a dedicated scribe is the lighter change. If you're already unhappy with the record system underneath — or you run boarding, grooming, daycare, or training alongside medicine — the scribe-only path leaves most of the work untouched.

Ambient capture accuracy

On clean single-doctor exam audio, both tools are good. Accuracy separates in the conditions vets actually work in:

• Drug names and doses. Generic transcription mangles mg/kg strings. Ask both vendors to run your own recording with three controlled substances in it and check the numbers character by character.
• Cross-talk. Owner, tech, and vet talking over each other is the normal case, not the edge case. Speaker separation is what keeps the owner's speculation out of your Assessment.
• Species and breed context. A veterinary-tuned model should not need to be told that a 4 kg patient is not a Labrador.
• Chart context. Chartling drafts against the patient's existing record — prior weights, chronic problems, current meds — so the Subjective reads like continuity rather than a fresh introduction. A standalone scribe has no record to read.

PIMS integration depth

This is where most scribe evaluations go wrong. "Integrates with ezyVet" can mean anything from a real API write into the medical record to a browser extension that pastes text into a field. Insist on seeing the note land in the chart during the demo, and ask three questions:

• Does the note post as a structured record, or as a blob of text in a notes field?
• Do medications, vaccines, and charges post with it — or only prose?
• Who signs it, and does the signature carry into the PIMS audit trail?

With Chartling the question dissolves: the record is the PIMS. Finalizing signs the SOAP, writes the medications and inventory movements, records controlled-substance dispensing with a witness, opens the invoice, and releases discharge instructions to the owner portal. Multi-service facilities

A scribe covers exam rooms. It does not cover the boarding stay whose meds need logging twice a day, the grooming appointment that needs a vaccine check before check-in, the daycare package that needs a credit deducted, or the training program that needs a report card. For practices running those services, documentation is maybe a third of the administrative load.

Chartling handles those natively — boarding, daycare, grooming, and training share the same patients, owners, invoices, and reminders as the clinical side. If that's your business, compare against multi-service platforms, not against scribes.

Compliance and the signed record

A draft note is not a medical record. What matters at board-inspection time is who signed it, when, whether it was amended, and whether controlled substances reconcile.
