The Veterinary PIMS Integration Guide: Getting AI Notes into ezyVet and Cornerstone

What does "PIMS integration" actually mean?

There are three levels of integration. Most vendors claim the second or third. Most deliver the first.

   Manual export (copy/paste): The AI generates a note. You copy it. You open your PIMS. You paste it into the correct patient record and reformat if needed. This is the most common "integration." It saves you typing but costs you 3 to 5 minutes of switching and pasting per note.

   One-click copy: The AI writes a structured SOAP note with clear section headings. One click copies the whole signed note, with the signer stamp and any addenda, as plain text. You switch to your PIMS, open the patient record, and paste it into the note. If your PIMS keeps S, O, A and P in separate fields, the section headings make each part easy to find.

   Direct API write-back: The AI tool calls your PIMS's API and writes the note directly into the patient record, no clipboard, no tab-switching, no pasting. The 12 seconds of friction goal. Chartling is building toward this for cloud systems with an API; it isn't available yet.

ezyVet Integration

ezyVet is one of the most widely used cloud-based PIMS platforms in progressive veterinary practices. Its REST API is well-documented and supports reading and writing patient records, consultations, and SOAP notes.

Current Chartling + ezyVet Workflow

Not Yet Available: Direct Write-Back

Chartling is building a direct connection to ezyVet using your practice's own API credentials, so the note would appear in the patient's consultation record without a copy and paste. It isn't available yet, and we'll say so here when it is.

It will use ezyVet's per-practice API key, issued through your ezyVet account.

Cornerstone Integration

Cornerstone (IDEXX) is the dominant PIMS in hospital-based and specialty practices in North America. Its integration architecture is different from cloud-native platforms. Cornerstone runs on-premise, which changes what direct API access looks like.

Current Chartling + Cornerstone Workflow

Chartling generates the signed SOAP note. Copy full SOAP puts the whole note, with its S, O, A and P sections, on your clipboard. Open the patient's record in Cornerstone, navigate to the medical note, and paste.

No Automatic Connection for Cornerstone

Cornerstone runs on-premise with no public API, so Chartling can't write notes into it directly. You copy each signed note into the Cornerstone record with one click.

The copy workflow needs no setup. Direct write-back isn't available yet.

   Run your first exam: Record an appointment. Review and sign the generated SOAP. Click Copy full SOAP.

   Paste and verify: Paste into your PIMS patient record and confirm it reads the way you want.

Why Integration Is the Most Important Feature to Get Right

A great AI scribe that doesn't talk to your PIMS still leaves you doing manual data entry. The time you save generating the note gets spent transferring it. Net efficiency gain: near zero.
