Referrals
Send a patient on with a clear summary, and answer the ones sent to you.
Referrals let you send a patient to another clinic with a summary of why. Open Referrals under Clinical in the sidebar to see referrals you have received and referrals you have sent. Referrals are available to clinics on every tier.
Sending a referral
-
Open the patient
On the patient record, click Refer. This needs
patient.write. -
Choose who to refer to
Partner clinic lists clinics that are in your network or are accepted referral partners. Outside clinic is for any other practice: enter the clinic name and an email or fax number, and optionally a contact person.
-
Say why
Enter the reason for referral, and optionally a clinical summary. Write only what you want the other clinic to see.
-
Send
A partner clinic receives it as pending until they accept or decline. An outside clinic has no accept step, so it is marked sent straight away, and if you gave an email address Chartling emails them the referral packet. Click Open packet to print or save the packet yourself.
Receiving a referral
On Referrals → Incoming, review the packet, then click Accept or Decline. A decline can include a short reason, which the sending clinic sees. On Outgoing you can follow the status of what you sent and click Revoke to withdraw a referral. Responding and revoking need patient.write; viewing needs patient.read.
A receiving clinic sees only what the packet contains: the patient name, species, your reason and your summary. It does not get access to your patient chart. If you print or fax the packet, it also includes breed, sex, date of birth, weight and the referring vet's name.
Referral partners
Go to Settings → Referral partners to set up partners. Enter the other clinic's handle to send a request. Once they accept, either clinic can refer to the other. Incoming requests appear under Partnership requests, where you can accept or decline. You can remove a partner at any time. Referral partners are separate from your multi-location network.
